Završetak Tjedna Helen Keller
Priveli smo kraju aktivnosti povodom Tjedna Helen Keller i završili ga u nešto ležernijem tonu. Organizirali smo igre sa simboličnim nagradama za pobjednike na krovu jedne poslovne zgrade s pogledom na cijeli Varaždin i uživali! Hvala svim korisnicima i volonterima na trudu i pojačanom angažmanu tijekom ovog, uvijek posebnog i važnog, tjedna za sve naše gluhoslijepe osobe!

Vožnja biciklima
Vožnja ulicama grada Varaždina na našim biciklima pravi je užitak. U sklopu tjedna Helen Keller pozvali smo naše sugrađane da nam se pridruže – dokaz da inkluzija gluhoslijepih osoba u društvo može biti vrlo zabavna, a ujedno i rekreativna aktivnost!

Tjedan Helen Keller obilježavamo svake godine aktivnostima u lipnju, a ove godine otvorili smo ga znakovnim jezikom! Posjetili su nas polaznici tečaja iz Varaždina sa kojima su naši korisnici ponavljali već naučeno, ali i učili nove znakove.

Ljetovanje na Pagu
Uživali smo u produženom vikendu na predivnom otoku Pagu. Održali smo edukativnu i zdravstvenu radionicu, posjetili muzej soli i naučili zanimljivosti o nastanku i važnosti soli kroz stoljeća. Osim toga, najviše smo uživali u šetnjama uz more, društvenim igrama, a oni najhrabriji i u kupanju!

Sudjelovanje na biciklijadi u Varaždinu
Članovi Udruge sudjelovali su na 24. Varaždinskoj biciklijadi. Nakon pedaliranja, potrošenu energiju nadoknadili smo ukusnim grahom i okrijepili se uz čašicu razgovora i stvaranjem novih planova.

Lecture by the Varaždin Breg Beekeepers Association
Representatives of the Varaždin Breg Beekeepers' Association visited us and gave an extremely interesting lecture on honey production and the organization of bee life. In addition to the educational part, our users also tried on a special protective suit used when working with beehives and tasted the finished product - homemade honey. At the end, we gave each user a jar of honey so that, along with their new knowledge, they could also take home something tasty, healthy and useful!

Our culinary workshops always feature something delicious, and this time it was beans with dried meat! With board games and delicious cream puffs, we concluded another fun and productive week.

Birthday celebration
We celebrated the birthdays of our dear users born in May who generously treated us to pizzas! In addition to the fun, we also had an educational corner where Croatian sign language course participants tried their hand at communicating with deaf and deafblind people.

Trying sweet drinks for the end of the week
We chose a new location with a wide selection of hot chocolates and tried a few different types. This dose of sweetness is just what is needed to brighten up rainy and gloomy days.

Visiting users in nursing homes
Going for a coffee is an easily accessible everyday occurrence for most people. What most people take for granted, is not possible for our residents in nursing homes without a sign language interpreter, so we visit them several times a week and take them for a much-needed coffee.

May Day barbecue
On the occasion of Labor Day, we spent the day in nature, with a fragrant barbecue and good company. Our users were joined by dear friends from Zagreb, Osijek and Split, who cheered us up with their arrival! We are especially proud of our hardworking barbecue masters who did an excellent job! In addition to social and competitive games, we also had surprise scratchers with valuable prizes.

Birthday visit
We regularly organize birthday parties for our users every month, and for those users who are unable to come to us, the celebration comes to them! We celebrated our dear Ivka's special, round birthday and surprised her with flowers, a box of chocolates, and a cake.

New bikes for our users
We are extremely proud and happy that we managed to realize our great wish and finally present our new bicycles, the first of their kind in Croatia. Our users will now be able to enjoy riding through our beautiful city. We also used these same bicycles to support student runners from our neighboring country as they passed through Varaždin as part of the relay ultramarathon from Belgrade to Brussels, sending a strong message.

Easter breakfast
Ham, eggs, radishes and other popular Easter dishes were also on our common table. With a rich and delicious breakfast, we celebrated this greatest Christian holiday. The users and employees of UGSO Varaždin wish you a happy and blessed Easter from the bottom of our hearts!

Birthday celebrations with pizza and cake have already become our tradition. An additional surprise for the birthday party, as well as other users, was popcorn - the perfect addition to any celebration! We believe that with this crunchy snack, every celebration will be unforgettable!

School in nature - Trakošćan Castle
On Saturday, as part of our outdoor school trip, we visited the magical Trakošćan and enjoyed a wonderful day. We toured the castle and admired its rich history and impressive appearance, and learned many interesting facts about the lifestyle of the people of that time. We ended this wonderful day full of memories with a walk around the lake and lunch in a restaurant.

Coffee for the weekend
To end the week, we treated ourselves to a drink at a well-known location and enjoyed good company. Our Karolina was full of inspiration and came up with a poem, and with the help of her translator, who diligently wrote it all down, her lyrics will not be forgotten.

Practice of Croatian Sign Language course participants
We were visited by students of the Croatian Sign Language course who are doing a certain number of hours of practice with us. In conversations with our users, they learned about the different ways of communication used by deafblind people and, we hope, learned something new.

Culinary workshop
Every third Thursday of the month we hold a culinary workshop, and this time we prepared meatballs and mashed potatoes – a dish that many people like to choose. While lunch was cooking, we played board games, and after the meal we cleared the table and washed the dishes together, which is another indication of the great teamwork we foster here.

Celebrating users' birthdays in March
We celebrated the birthdays of three of our users born in March, and one of them was Josip, a user of the nursing home, whom we brought to be part of this celebration. With cake, pizza and dear friends, the birthday people enjoyed their day, and the president of the Association presented them with appropriate gifts.

Visit to the Museum of Međimurje in Čakovec
We visited the Museum of Međimurje Čakovec and stepped into history through the rich legacy of the Zrinskis. In addition to the artwork, we learned about the way of life of that time, intriguing stories about the robbery of the castle and the cruel punishments of past centuries. A special experience was the climb to the lookout point, which offers a beautiful view of the entire city.

Celebrating the birthdays of residents in nursing homes
We celebrated the birthdays of our users placed in nursing homes. The translators visited them in the company of their friends, to celebrate this, for many, important day together. We also brought a suitable gift and cakes because every celebration is more beautiful with a sweet surprise and dear people.

"Shopping" day in Varaždin
Every first Wednesday of the month is now reserved for shopping! For our users who are unable to travel to distant stores on their own, we provided transportation to the shopping center, where they made their purchases with the help of an interpreter.

International Women's Day and Masquerade
We celebrated the masquerade and International Women's Day with a double celebration. All the users came in masks, so a very interesting and colorful team gathered - from a giraffe, mummy and policeman to a clown, rabbit and witch! Along with donuts and a good atmosphere, we also had a contest for the best mask. The title of winner went to our clown, who was also presented with a special gift. We also celebrated Women's Day, during which the Association gave cosmetic packages to female users, and roses to the male users. This beautiful gesture once again showed that we care about each other and act as a real small community.

Week of cultural activities
Accompanied by an interpreter, our beneficiaries as part of the "Include me culturally" project had the opportunity to enjoy a play with sign language translation at the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin. We also enjoyed a cinema screening of an inspiring film that follows a boy with a rare disease and an autism spectrum disorder and conveys the message that giving up is not an option and finding joy in each new day.

Board Games Day
We held a meeting and agreed on upcoming activities, including visits to museums, going to the cinema and a summer vacation. We shared memories from the Christmas photo shoot with the users, which brought smiles to everyone's faces. After the meeting, we continued with board games, and we were joined by the students of the Croatian Sign Language course who are doing their internship at the Association. We have had an educational, fun and fulfilling day - we hope there will be many more like it.

We held a culinary workshop where we prepared a healthy stew with vegetables and meat. While lunch was cooking, we chatted over a cup of tea, and ended the day by relaxing with board games.

Valentine's Day, birthday celebration and International Pizza Day
This week we had a triple reason to celebrate - we celebrated the birthday of our Association's president, Valentine's Day, and International Pizza Day. Along with a cheerful atmosphere and delicious food, we had fun with interesting games with Valentine's Day motifs and appropriate prizes for the winners.

Visit to the Varaždin City Museum
We visited the permanent exhibition "The World of Insects" in Varaždin, one of the most beautiful natural history exhibitions in Europe, with over 4,500 exhibits. In addition to real insects, we saw enlarged models, photographs, and tools and aids used to study them. The visitors were delighted, so we will definitely be back!

Birthday celebration
This time the birthday celebration was full of surprises! First, our dear users surprised us with a beautiful gesture by treating us to pizzas, for which we are very grateful, and then our handball team surprised us with a victory, playing against our neighboring Hungary and taking us to the grand final of the World Handball Championship. Believe me, our users are the best fans!

Maribor - Pohorje
Pohorje is a famous winter destination in Slovenia, and it was our first winter destination this year. Cable car rides, snowshoeing and sledding are just some of the activities we tried out in the snow. It was wonderful to go back to childhood and create memories that our guests will remember for a long time.

Christmas party
We celebrated the most beautiful holiday of the year with a festive holiday dinner in the premises of our Association. Our beneficiaries were welcomed with Christmas gifts distributed by Santa Claus himself and his helpers. The beneficiaries also participated in a rich raffle, and they captured these special moments by taking pictures with a Christmas background.

Advent in Varaždin
Varaždin has been declared the most beautiful Advent in Croatia for the second time in a row, and we, of course, had to be part of that magic. The experience is greatest in the evening hours, and for our users, with the support of the intervenors, this experience is only possible. A special experience was the ride in the Santa Claus Lift, a flight simulation above the city that took us to the magical North Pole, where the users took photos with Santa Claus.

Halloween
We celebrated the scariest and craziest night of the year. We prepared an atmosphere and "scary" creative delicacies worthy of the occasion, as well as "vampire blood" for the bravest. Scary masks and themed games with valuable prizes completed this memorable evening.

Three-day trip to Zadar - inclusion
As part of our activities for the inclusion of deafblind people in society, we spent three unforgettable days in beautiful Zadar, enjoying swimming in the pool, boat rides, walks along the sea, board games and workshops dedicated to taking care of our own health. We also visited the famous Sea Organ and explored the island of Ugljan, having a great time.

Labor Day celebration
On the occasion of Labor Day, we organized an unforgettable celebration with a May Day barbecue, games, and a raffle. While the smells of barbecue spread through the air, users competed in relay races with the help of intervenors, and the winners won sweet packages!

Excursion - Bled, Slovenia
We organized a nature school in Bled and spent a wonderful day in our neighboring Slovenia. We admired the beauty of Lake Bled, rode the tourist train, and enjoyed good food and the scents of spring. Tired, but happy and fulfilled, we returned home with wonderful memories!

Celebrating 10 years of existence of UGSO Varaždin
We celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Association, surrounded by dear friends and associates from all over Croatia. We remembered the beginnings, shared special gifts and thanked everyone who supported us in our beginnings. In addition to marking this important anniversary, we also celebrated the birthdays of our users. We look forward to the coming years of togetherness and success and continue to build a better tomorrow for all our deafblind users!

Outdoor school in Ljubljana
We organized a nature school in Ljubljana and visited the beautiful ZOO where our users had the opportunity to see elephants, giraffes, tigers and many other animals they had never encountered before. After exploring the animal world, we rested our tired legs by riding along the Ljubljanica River, enjoying the view of the beautiful city. Upon returning home, we visited Trojane and enjoyed their famous and delicious donuts.

In addition to various street performers and an animal exhibition, we met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, presented our work and allowed users to take pictures with famous political figures. We ended the day in the shade of a cafe and enjoyed the sunset and good company.
